Williams grew up in a middle-class family, with his father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams, working as a senior executive in Ford Motors, and his mother, Laurie McLaurin, being a former model.

He attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, where he excelled in both academics and drama. After high school, he studied political science at Claremont Men's College in Claremont, California, before transferring to the College of Marin in Kentfield, where he pursued acting.

Williams's passion for acting led him to enroll at the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the United States. At Juilliard, he honed his skills and developed a unique comedic style that blended rapid-fire improvisation, wit, and a wide range of character voices.

In the 1970s, Robin Williams began his career as a stand-up comedian, quickly gaining recognition for his high-energy performances and razor-sharp wit. His breakthrough came when he was cast as the eccentric alien Mork in the television sitcom "Mork & Mindy" (1978-1982).
